Construction has begun of a new primary school to serve the huge Somerdale housing development in Keynsham.
The building should be finished in September 2017, just in time for its first intake of pupils. With nursery provision, it will have capacity for 240 children aged from three to 11 years.
Under construction by Taylor Wimpey, Somerdale is on the site of the former Cadbury chocolate factory site, where three and four-bedroom houses are currently available, priced from £344,000.
Alongside the new school, there are community facilities at the Somerdale Pavilion, including a new gym, sports pitches and a nine-hole golf course. There will also be a netball club, bowling club and tennis courts.
A riverside walk will be created with a cycle/pedestrian bridge over the River Avon, while substantial areas of public open space, including a wetland area for wildlife, are to be established.
