Welcome to Turtle Class!

Our Class Teacher is Beth. Our Learning Support Assistant who helps us is Claire

In our pre-school we aim to provide a high-quality learning environment, where children are given the opportunity to learn at their own pace and follow their own interests. We encourage independence and allow the children to grow in self-confidence and develop at their own rate through challenging and engaging play.

Welcome to Bumblebees, our Year 2  class!

A quick hello from the adults who help with our learning.

Our teacher is called Berna.

Our Learning Support Assistants who help us are Janet and Sonja.

In Bumblebee class, we want to be resourceful, independent learners who are engaged and excited about what we do. Much of our learning is done through discovery and we love exploring our own interests.

Being in Year 2 now, we also have 3 challenges a week, which we do independently during discovery time. Two of these challenges will have a science/geography/history/art focus and the other will be a fun phonics challenge this term. We have all week to complete these challenges, learning to manage our time and increase our independence.

We are also starting to share our independent learning in discovery through our very own discovery diaries, taking pride in the wonderful learning we complete during discovery. Our maths and writing is done in small groups and we have guided reading groups, where we read to an adult. We have whole class phonics and learn together sessions and we also have two P.E. sessions a week and music on Fridays.

As a parent you’ll know how important the internet is to children – they use it to learn, play, socialise and express themselves. It’s a highly creative place of amazing opportunities.

However the technology children use every day can be daunting and you might worry or not know about the risks your child can face online – such as bullying, contact from strangers or the possibility of them seeing illegal or inappropriate content.

Online Safety is an important part of keeping children safe at all Educate Together Primary schools. We have extensive security measures in place in school, which are monitored both internally and externally, to help safeguard pupils from potential dangers or unsuitable material. Any Online Safety incidents are recorded and managed. Online Safety is taught to all pupils explaining and demonstrating how to stay safe and behave appropriately online.

Keeping Your Children Safe Online

We recognise that your child may use technology more than is usual for your family during current lockdown restrictions. We are aware that this can pose problems for families who may not understand the risks children may face when learning or playing online. Please be mindful that school has very strict filtering processes and so if your child is searching at school, inappropriate sites will not be accessed. Please use this time to check your parental filtering to keep your child safe at home too.

Some key websites to help you and your children are:

Please be mindful of the dangers surrounding the video conferencing apps such as WhatsApp, Zoom, FaceTime etc. These are live running apps and can be recorded by the user at the other end. Please take care to ensure that your child is supervised whilst using these to protect them from images and languages that would not normally be accessible in your household. Staff at school will not be using video conferencing apps to ensure all safeguards for children and staff are in place.

Educate Together school’s have a strong focus on collaboration, engagement and stewardship. This begins with our pupil’s knowing we are listening.

Each class  within the school has a listening team representative. The listening team bring forward issues and ideas from the children, and also ask adults questions on how we are helping to make the school an even better place.

Elections take place in Term 3 every year.
